Artist's Comments

I might update this if I ever decide to draw a background...

anyway, just got back from my cruise, twas fun, tell ya more later *tired*, and I managed to get back some long lost inspiration, somehow inspired by a flying fish (long story), to draw this little critter.

I don't have much information on salamanders yet. I'm to lazy to do research, and what little research I did brought up little to nothing about them having six legs, as I'm pretty sure they have. If you have any more info, I'd appreciate knowing

Usually when I see people relate to salamanders, I see scales and bulky armor...and I don't get why really when salamanders, as I've always known, are amphibians, with wet, slimy skin adapted for water. This is what I wanted to portray here. I tried not to make it too dragon-like. The neck is long, but the head is round and sleek. there are no scales, so the skin is very wet and shiny looking, with wrinkles to show it is loose, rather than firm and tight as often portrayed with dragons. The body is more lizard-like, with 5-toed feet and a long tail. The salamander lives in hot, volcanic regions, with a black, marble-like body to hide it in the char rocks and a bright orange and yellow belly. Inside the salamander there seems to come some sort of light which you can see from it's mouth, and its tongue is flame shaped...a design I'm starting to wonder about as far as probably looking more like a flaw...oh, and he has no nose...

His hide is colored with india ink, using white charcoal and colored pencil to detail. Black colored pencil helps to blend his dappled back into a nice crimson red, orange, and then yellow. I'm very pleased with how the colors blended :D

Nice take on the salamander. You're right most of the pictures you see them in they are bulky.

That's awesome! I love the way it's like a salamander, but it has your... hm, style. It has a bit of a monster-dragon thing inside; I think it's really cool! The fiery touch is nice too, it definitely adds to it.

Sometimes we can be so anxious to provide our children with what we did not get in our childhood that we might forget to give them what we did get.

You've really improved your technique, especially your colouring methods :)
The way you've made the the colours, particularly the oranges and yellows is beautifully done, I can see you put lots of effort into this :D

Time is very slow for those who wait
Very fast for those who are scared
Very long for those who lament
Very short for those who celebrate
But for those who love,Time is eternity

This very pretty. The colors are a charm to the eye and his wrinkles are adorable. I love the yellow on his chest/belly and the extra pair of legs.

~All because of you,
I believe in angels.
Not the kind with wings,
No, not the kind with halos,
The kind that bring you home,
When home becomes a strange place.
I'll follow your voice,
All you have to do is shout it out....~

I think its because the artist sees them as needing armored skin to survive hot volcanoes...which I guess makes sense, but I still think they should be amphibious.

thnks :D

I still wish I did a better job on the tongue. I also added his sixth foot after some nagging, so I'll have to update it at some point. Thx though, fire is so much fun :D
