this gorgeous critter is perhaps the rarest native reptile left in Florida. They're small, can change from green to brown, love sunlight and brightly colored plants, have the most exotic eyes and delicate little clawed fingers, and seem to be prey to their invasive cousins: the brown anole, knight anole, and bahamian curly tail.

its called a green anole, only the second one I've seen cross my yard this year. When I was younger I was forbad to ever catch these rare beauties but I'm older and more careful now. This one, however, being that I hadn't seen one in so long and he just seemed so happy on that leaf, I decided to leave with only a picture. These are the most beautiful lizards in florida, and the rarest. Luckily they seem more common around areas near canals and the more humid parts of Florida near water, where curly tails prefer to be away from. The long winter has scared these critters away from my house for a while, but this one poked his head out and I was so delighted to get a picture of him....unfortunately I got a little to close and scared him away ^^'

I've enhanced the photo subtly, brightening the eye/eyelids, darkening his underbelly and softening his head with highlights. I also enhanced the shadow/highlights of the water droplets from all the rain we've been getting in Florida.
